Siquijor is proud to have many original buildings undamaged from the Japanese occupation. Many of these date back to the Spanish era and this is evident in their unique architecture.
We even have the oldest convent building in the Philippines and Asia, although no longer being used as a convent it is available for viewing as are our many old churches.

The towns coral-stone church and convent was built in 1783
and dedicated to St Francis De Assisi.
Beside the church there is a old stone Belltower in the province capital.

San Isidro De Labrador Church and convent dates from 1857
and believed to be the oldest structure in the country.
It has been declared a national historical monument.

The Cang-Isok House was constructed from centuries-old molave timber - The house is the oldest dwelling remaining on Siquijor. In the house live twoelderly sisters. They believed to be two of the eldest living residends on the Island.. It can be viewed and photographed from the highway close to Talingting (Enrique Villanueva) Town. It is an amazingly durable timber building, perched on high posts and gazing out to the sea. As seen some roof repairs have been recently carried out.

Our Lady of Divine Providence Church is located in the town of Maria. It is also an important attraction, because of the belltower, and for being home of the infamous statue of Santa rita - a black-clad, evil-eyed woman who killed her husband and holds his skull in her hands... She is the spookieest statue you`re ever likely to see... or not to see
